Joey grew up in his grandfather’s music store, Williams Music, in Orangeburg, SC, immersed in classic rock. Learning acoustic guitar at 12 and drums at 16, he developed a deep appreciation for "pure" music ((music created by actual human beings with instruments, as he defines it) is at the center of his musical essence). Influenced by grunge bands like Pearl Jam, he began performing solo acoustic shows at 20 while attending the University of South Carolina. His 2008 EP "The Basement Sessions" featured the radio-played track "Feels Like Yesterday." He has played in various bands, covering iconic artists, and remains a celebrated South Carolina musician.
